PSNK Outlasts Penn College, Boone Sinks Game Winner
With 3.9 seconds left in the game, Penn State New Kensington's Rashon Boone was able to sink a wide open lay up to give the PSNK Men's Basketball team (1-16, 1-15) its first win of the season over Penn College (4-20, 3-12) at the Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon, 77-75.
The play was set up when Penn College put on a full court press and attempted to trap New Ken's Paul Currington and force the game into overtime. Currington found a wide open Boone behind the defense and the pass landed perfectly to make for an easy lay up.
Penn State New Kensington built up a 12 point lead at halftime, 47-35, with Darryl Harrington leading the Lions with 12 points at the break. The Wildcats closed the gap in the second with gutsy efforts by Scott Fenton and Jesse Newman who finished with 20 and 19 points respectively.
Five different PSNK hoopers finished in double figures on the day with Harrington netting the most, 22. Dom Strapac was able to stay hot from behind the 3-point line as he went 5-7 from beyond the arch. Jordan Buchanich and Shaquille Hager were both able to notch 10 points a piece to go along with six and five rebounds respectively.
Penn State New Kensington looks to build off the victory as they wrap up the season on Tuesday night at home against Penn State Schuylkill. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m.
