Men's Soccer team wins OT Thriller, 4-3
The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team recovered from a 3-1
halftime deficit to defeat Penn State Beaver 4-3 in overtime Wednesday
(Sept. 19) night. The win moves the New Kensington Lions to 3-0 in the
Penn State University Athletic Conference, and 3-1 overall.
New Kensington fell behind early as Beaver's Tyler Blake scored two goals
within the first 20 minutes of the game. Sophomore forward Michael Clear
cut the lead in half after scoring off a pass from sophomore midfielder
J.D. DeMarco. Beaver responded and increased the lead to 3-1 on Blake's
third goal before halftime.
The New Kensington Lions were more aggressive in the second half,
attacking the Beaver defense, and producing numerous scoring
opportunities. Junior forward Ashutosh Pandey scored off a pass from
DeMarco in the 66th minute, to pull New Kensington within one goal. DeMarco sent the game
into overtime, scoring an unassisted goal in the 88th minute. Clear
notched the game winner, with an unassisted goal in the 103 minute.
Coach Pat Cavanaugh's team continues its six-game road swing this weekend
with a pair of 1 p.m. PSUAC games in eastern Pennsylvania--Saturday, Sept.
22, at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and Sunday, Sept. 23, at Penn State
Schuylkill.
