PSNK Volleyball Drops a Pair in Weekend Home Stand
The Penn State New Kensington Women's Volleyball team (6-17, 5-11) rounded out the 2012 campaign at home against Penn State Greater Allegheny (11-14, 9-6) and Penn State Fayette (22-5, 16-0) this weekend. New Kensington was unable to muster up enough offense to defeat either PSUAC opponent, but did show moments of brilliance on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, Greater Allegheny was able to come away with a 3-1 victory over New Kensington (17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-25). The New Ken Lady Lions were led by Kara Shaley and Stormie Brice on Saturday as they were both able to accumulate 10 kills each. Melissa Anthony and Jordan Miller also helped to pace New Kensington with 12 and 6 assists respectively. Shaley also led PSNK in aces with five.
Sunday afternoon pitted PSNK against the third ranked Penn State Fayette at the Athletic Center. Fayette got out to a fast start taking the first set 25-7. New Kensington slowly closed the gap on Fayette throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets, falling 25-14 and 25-19 respectively. Shaley again led the team in kills with four on the afternoon and was also able to pick up a solo block. Brice and Melissa Daugherty were also able to put together three kills a piece on Sunday Afternoon.
Penn State New Kensington finished the season 9th in the PSUAC with a 5-11 conference mark in 2012.
