Fall Student-Athletes Earn Fritz Sportsmanship Award
NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Three fall Penn State New Kensington student-athletes have recently been honored with the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award by the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
The John Fritz Sportsmanship Award is given to one student-athlete on each sports team that best displays good sportsmanship and demonstrates ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. The honorees exemplify the Penn State University Values of integrity, responsibility, excellence, respect, discovery and community.
Ben Edwards (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) – Men's Soccer
Edwards, a senior, was late getting his college soccer career started as he joined the New Kensington soccer team during the spring 2021 semester. He has made an immediate positive impact on the program and has helped to lead the young team by example. Ben will graduate in December with a Penn State degree in psychology.
Elliott Ferrent (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) – Women's Volleyball
Ferrenty is an outside hitter for the women's volleyball program. In her first season with the program, she showed that she would do anything for her teammates and coaches and proved to be helpful and motivational. Because of that, she was voted to be captain by her teammates in just her freshman season.
Michael Kohl (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) – Men's Golf
Kohl is a sophomore on the golf team and has represented the program to the highest level during competition this during this challenging year. He has been complimented by opposing athletics departments on how respectful and courteous he is.
