Penn State New Kensington Falls in Close Battle Against Penn State Du Bois, 9–8
In a thrilling back-and-forth contest on Saturday, Penn State New Kensington came up just short in a 9–8 loss to Penn State Du Bois at the conclusion of a game filled with timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and standout performances on both sides.
Penn State New Kensington struck first in the top of the 1st inning when shortstop Bryan Calderon launched a solo home run to center field, setting the tone early. However, Du Bois answered quickly, capitalizing on walks and situational hitting to plate four runs in their half of the inning.
Despite the early deficit, New Kensington stayed resilient. In the 2nd inning, Chris Magnee brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Adrian Cruz to cut the lead to 4–2. The offense continued to chip away, with Magnee once again delivering in the 4th inning—a two-RBI double to right field followed by Miguel Garcia's RBI single that made it a 6–5 ballgame.
On the other side, Du Bois was relentless, scoring in each of the first four innings. Jake Sikora led the charge with a 3-RBI performance, including a key RBI double in the 2nd. Braylen Corter added a sacrifice fly, and Bryce Dobson reached on a fielder's choice RBI as Du Bois built a 9–5 lead heading into the final innings.
New Kensington wasn't finished yet. In the 7th, after a pair of baserunners reached, Chris Magnee capped off his remarkable day with a three-run homer to right field—his sixth RBI of the game—bringing the score to 9–8. Unfortunately, the rally ended there, as Du Bois managed to close the game and hold onto the narrow lead.
