Penn State New Kensington Holds Off Penn State Fayette in 3–1 Victory
April 12 — Penn State New Kensington used early offense and a strong complete-game outing from pitcher Zander Allen to secure a 3–1 win over Penn State Fayette on Saturday afternoon.
The game opened with fireworks for the New Kensington Nittany Lions, as leadoff hitter Caden Rupert set the tone with a solo home run in the top of the first. Just a few batters later, Miguel Garcia followed up with a solo shot of his own, giving the visitors an early 2–0 lead.
New Kensington tacked on another run in the third inning when Garcia—who had reached base again—was driven home by a clutch RBI single from Bryan Calderon, stretching the lead to 3–0.
Fayette's offense struggled against Zander Allen, who delivered a masterful performance on the mound. Allen went the distance, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out eight. His lone blemish came in the fifth inning when Aidan Schnurer put his team on the board with a solo home run to left, accounting for Fayette's only run of the day.
Despite a strong outing from Fayette starter Noah Matthews, who also pitched a complete game and struck out one across six innings, the early damage proved too much to overcome. Matthews gave up six hits, three earned runs, and two homers while facing 27 batters.
