Lions Rally Late to Defeat Shenango, 7–3
The Penn State New Kensington baseball team delivered a complete team performance on Thursday afternoon, using timely hitting, smart baserunning, and a solid outing from starter Zander Allen to earn a 7–3 win over Penn State Shenango.
After falling behind 2–0 in the top of the first, the Lions quickly responded in the third inning. Nat Greenslet lined a single to right to score John Galeano Del Castillo, and Miguel Garcia followed with an RBI single of his own to tie the game. Greenslet later scored in the fifth on a throwing error, giving New Kensington its first lead of the game, 3–2.
Shenango knotted the game in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Troy Bachman, but the Lions broke things open in the bottom of the sixth. With two runners on, Caden Rupert ripped a triple to deep right field, driving in two unearned runs and giving New Kensington a 5–3 advantage.
In the seventh, the Lions tacked on two more insurance runs. Adrian Cruz delivered an RBI single, and Chris Magnee later scored on a wild pitch, capping a four-run stretch that sealed the victory.
Zander Allen earned the complete game win (3–6), scattering nine hits over seven innings while striking out six and allowing just three earned runs. He threw 32 batters and navigated through trouble with poise, aided by a defense that overcame early miscues to hold Shenango scoreless in the final two frames.
Miguel Garcia led the Lions at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, adding an RBI and a stolen base. Greenslet added two hits, a stolen base, and an RBI, while Rupert's triple drove in a pair and set the tone for the late-game surge.
