Opening day tie against York
Penn State New Kensington Opens PSUAC Play with 1-1 Draw at Penn State York
The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team opened its PSUAC slate on the road with a competitive 1-1 draw against Penn State York on Saturday.
The Lions wasted no time getting on the board as Ethan Krystek scored just three minutes into the match, finishing a setup from Carson Zadylak to give New Kensington the early 1-0 lead. York answered in the 23rd minute when Adeshola (Sam) Ayeni struck on a powerful shot to even the score at 1-1.
Both teams created chances throughout, with New Kensington generating 11 total shots, including two on frame. York tallied six shots, four on goal, but goalkeeper Kenton Knox came up with four important saves to preserve the draw. On the other end, York's keeper made 11 stops to deny the Lions a potential game-winner.
The result marks a hard-earned point in the first PSUAC match of the season for New Kensington, who will look to build on the performance as conference play continues.
