Balanced Attack Leads New Kensington Past Schuylkill, 8–1
Penn State New Kensington men's soccer put together a strong all-around performance on Saturday afternoon, earning an 8–1 home win over Penn State Schuylkill in PSUAC play.
It took less than a minute for the Lions to make their mark, as Jayson Ireland fired home the opener just 43 seconds into the match. New Kensington kept the pressure on, with James Duncan doubling the lead in the 12th minute before Ethan Krystek finished off a tidy move assisted by Luke Guerrini. Carson Zadylak added a fourth soon after to cap a dominant opening 20 minutes.
Schuylkill pulled one back midway through the half, but the Lions quickly regained control. Daniel Garcia restored the four-goal cushion before halftime, finishing a setup from Duncan, who continued his standout return to form.
In the second half, New Kensington stayed composed and efficient. Duncan struck again early, this time assisted by Dylan Shaw, before Ireland tallied his second of the day from a Daniel Garcia pass. Late in the match, Michael Pilka capped the scoring with his first goal of the season to seal the 8–1 result.
Defensively, the Lions were organized throughout, limiting Schuylkill to just three shots while goalkeepers Kenton Knox, David Jimenez, and Brendan Savinda combined for two saves.
