Penn State New Kensington caps regular season with thrilling Senior Day comeback
New Kensington, Pa. — On a spirited Senior and 2+2/3+1 Day at home, Penn State New Kensington closed out the regular season in style with a 4-2 comeback win over Central Penn on Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind early in the second half, the Lions rallied with four unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes to secure a strong finish to their PSUAC campaign.
Central Penn opened the scoring in the 54th minute through Ben Painter before Dylan Shaw equalized just over ten minutes later, finishing from close range off a well-placed pass from Jayson Ireland. The Knights briefly retook the lead on a solo effort by Isaac Melendez in the 70th minute, but New Kensington responded with intensity and composure.
Carson Zadylak brought the home side level again in the 77th minute, converting from a Luke Guerrini assist, and just minutes later, he struck again — this time off a sharp combination between Daniel Garcia and Ireland — to give PSNK a 3-2 advantage. Ireland then sealed the win in the 85th minute, scoring from an Ethan Krystek setup to cap the comeback and an electric home atmosphere.
It was a fitting end to the regular season, celebrating the contributions of PSNK's seniors and 2+2/3+1 players while showcasing the team's resilience and togetherness heading into postseason play.
