Penn State New Kensington advances to PSUAC Championship after semifinal win over defending champions
Lower Burrell, Pa. — Playing at Burrell High School, Penn State New Kensington men's soccer continued its postseason run with a 2-0 victory over defending champion Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday afternoon in the PSUAC Semifinals.
In a tightly contested matchup, both sides battled through a scoreless first half marked by organized defending and patient buildup play. Goalkeeper Kenton Knox anchored the New Kensington defense, recording nine saves and controlling his box against consistent Lehigh Valley pressure.
The breakthrough came late in the second half when Daniel Garcia capitalized in the 77th minute, staying alert as several defenders paused for an offside call that never came. Garcia calmly finished after a well-timed pass from Carson Zadylak, with Jayson Ireland also involved in the build-up. Just three minutes later, Zadylak doubled the advantage in the 80th minute, converting a crisp assist from Ireland to put the match out of reach.
From there, New Kensington's defense absorbed the final waves of Lehigh Valley's attack to secure the clean sheet and book a spot in the PSUAC Championship match.
