Penn State New Kensington captures PSUAC Championship in double-overtime thriller
University Park, Pa. — After 104 minutes of tense, scoreless soccer, Penn State New Kensington claimed the 2025 PSUAC Championship with a dramatic 1-0 double-overtime victory over Penn State Scranton on Tuesday afternoon at Panzer Stadium.
The championship match was a defensive battle from start to finish, as both sides limited clear chances despite long spells of attacking pressure. Goalkeeper David Jimenez stood strong for New Kensington, making four crucial saves and commanding his box with confidence to record the shutout.
The decisive moment arrived in the 104th minute when senior defender Tanner Stockdill, appearing in his 68th career match, scored his first-ever collegiate goal. Stockdill stayed alert to finish after a precise pass from Jayson Ireland, sending the New Kensington bench and fans into jubilation as the golden goal clinched the program's first PSUAC title.
New Kensington outshot Scranton 19–8, sustaining possession and pressure throughout the second half and both overtime periods. Despite being reduced to ten men following a late red card, the Lions' defensive organization and composure never wavered, securing the clean sheet and the championship.
