PSNK COMEBACK STRONG IN GAME 2
Waldrop Shuts the Door as Penn State New Kensington Blanks Scranton, 8-0
April 13, 2025 – Dunmore, PA — Penn State New Kensington came out swinging and never looked back, cruising to an 8-0 shutout win over Penn State Scranton on Saturday. The offense poured it on early with a four-run first inning, while Olivia Waldrop tossed a dominant complete-game shutout.
The Lions jumped ahead quickly with five straight hits in the top of the first. Kali Barnett got things started with an RBI single, followed by run-scoring hits from Waldrop, Antonia Velasquez, and Piper Zufall, who plated two on the day. The early surge gave New Kensington a 4-0 lead before Scranton could record an out.
Defensive miscues allowed a fifth run to cross in the third, and New Kensington added insurance in the sixth and seventh innings, capped off by a Barnett RBI double that brought home Brookelyn Kotch.
On the mound, Waldrop was untouchable. She allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out seven in the complete-game effort to earn her first win of the season. Scranton struggled to find offensive rhythm all game, managing only one extra-base hit and going hitless after the third inning.
