Rivera Shines Despite Road Setback at DuBois
Du Bois Pulls Away Early in 76–34 Loss for New Kensington
Penn State New Kensington faced a tough road test Tuesday evening, falling 76–34 to Penn State Du Bois at the Du Bois campus.
Du Bois set the tone early, jumping out to a 23–11 lead after the first quarter and continuing to extend the margin through the first half. New Kensington struggled to find a rhythm offensively, trailing 41–16 at the break.
The Lions showed resilience coming out of halftime, but Du Bois used a strong third-quarter performance to put the game out of reach, outscoring New Kensington 25–8 in the period.
Jayde Rivera led all scorers for New Kensington with 23 points, knocking down four three-pointers and accounting for more than half of the team's scoring. Antonia Velasquez and Janel Montgomery contributed on the glass, each pulling down key rebounds as New Kensington battled inside despite the scoreline.
Defensively, the Lions were active but forced to contend with Du Bois' depth and rebounding advantage, as the hosts finished with a 58–31 edge on the boards.
Penn State New Kensington will look to regroup and build momentum as conference play continues later this week.
