Women's Soccer Makes PSUAC Debut at Penn State Mont Alto
History was made on Sunday as the Penn State New Kensington women's soccer team took the field for its first-ever PSUAC conference match, traveling to Penn State Mont Alto. The Lions showed plenty of fight and promise in their debut, creating scoring opportunities and playing with energy in a 2-0 setback.
New Kensington generated seven shots in the match, four of them on goal, highlighted by strong efforts from Samara Ayodele, Bella Oskin, and Andi Householder, who all tested Mont Alto's defense. Defensively, goalkeeper Dana Barczykowski stood tall in net, recording five saves and keeping the game close throughout. She also denied Mont Alto from the PK spot.
Mont Alto broke through in the 37th minute with a goal from Lyla Kaufmann, assisted by Cameron Dillow, and later added to its lead on an own goal in the 60th minute. Despite the deficit, New Kensington continued to push forward, winning the battle on corner kicks (7-3) and showing resilience until the final whistle.
The performance marked an encouraging start to PSUAC play for the program, setting a foundation to build on as the season progresses.
